Fishing update - April 16, 2008

The fish are biting! April through September is a fabulous fishing season in South Florida. The tarpon are biting. The snook are in the Bay now. Snappers, Trout and Redfish are all over the grass flats.

Redfish time

This redfish put up a good fight, but we won in the end...

Dolphin chasing seatrout in the Bay

Flamingo in the Everglades National Park is an experience each and every time I venture into Florida Bay. All of the bird life changes with the seasons. Flocks of white pelicans roost in the winter time. Fish eagles nest on pilings waiting to dive for a fish meal. The dolphin spend their time rounding up schools of bait fish for dinner.

Looking for mangrove snapper and seatrout

Frank and his wife Sharon love to catch fish. We started the day at the bait patch. While we all were catching bait the discussion turned to where we would go to find the catching rather than just the fishing. As many areas started to cross my mind I decided to travel to a spot I had fished before half way from Flamingo to the The Florida Keys.

Where's my chumbag??!

We set the chumbag out for the live bait we were planning to catch for the day. After a short while the bait came into the chum slick we created. After catching some Pin Fish with a bait pole I readied the castnet in order to speed up the bait catching process. The bait disappeared - I wondered what had happened. All of a sudden a ten foot Bull Shark came swimming by our boat. He had our chumbag in his mouth! I am sure that he had the whole school of bait chasing right behind...

Snook time!

This is one happy fisherman - what a snook! This lunker weighed xx lbs.
